The An-26 transport aircraft is intended for transportation of cargoes, mail and passengers. When necessary, it may be converted to ambulance version. Arranged in the tail section of the fuselage is a cargo door employed for cargo handling. The cargo door is covered with a special ramp used for loading of cargo and vehicles. With the aircraft on the ground the ramp can be slid forward under the fuselage for direct loading into the cargo compartment.
Cargo compartment is fully pressurized. Temperature in cargo compartment is controlled by crew and it allows transporting live stock, medicaments, dangerous goods and etc.
The An-26 is complying with ICAO Annex 16 Chapter 3 "Aircraft noise". The flight and navigation equipment along with the radio aids mounted in the aircraft provide for its operation under adverse weather conditions (in the day-time and at night).
